Position: Fabrication Painter
Summary:
The Fabrication Painter at Gateway Studios independently runs a project from start to finish. The fabrication painter will assist with finish treatment of set design, or other projects, as directed by the supervisor, in a paint booth application with a respirator. This painter works with wood, steel, plastics, paints, and other materials as required, and performs the application of finish treatments of different materials. Some tasks may require minor repairs involving the use of bonds, duraglass, and other paint-related repair products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Major Responsibilities:
Procedural:
- Ensure departmental goals of safety, quality, productivity, utilization, and delivery schedules are met.
- Keep and operate a clean and safe workspace.
- Maintain painting equipment and the paint booth.
Project Planning and Time Management:
- Discuss projects and create plans to produce quality products in the allotted timeframes.
- Maintain inventory to increase production and quality.
- Inspect work to verify finishes.
Painting:
- Paint set carts, caddies, truss, and other projects.
- Perform minor finish repairs as needed.
- Perform application of finish material error-free. (Typically, this is a semi-gloss black paint and/or Raptor liner.)
Attendance:
- Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.

- To be determined by supervisor on a permanent or project basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certificates:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Driver’s License – Good Driving Record.
Experience:
- 3 years or more of shop experience.
Skills/Abilities:
- Familiarity with the operation of all shop paint spraying equipment, air compressors, and paint materials.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Understanding of basic Theatre terminology.
- Understanding of basic shop safety terminology.
