Position: Lighting Technician 1
Summary:
The Lighting Technician 1 plays a vital role in the production process of the lighting department at Gateway Studios & Production Services. The Lighting Technician is responsible for the preparation of temporary electrical power systems and lighting instruments necessary for the making of live performance productions, including concerts, music festivals, sporting events, corporate events, and webisodic productions. This position reports to the Lighting Department Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Major Responsibilities
1. Prep Lighting
- Prepare in shop the set-up of lighting equipment, including hanging fixtures, focusing lighting instruments, laying and connecting power cables, and installing fixtures.
- Maintain equipment readiness and equipment inventory.
- Load set lighting equipment manually into carts or containers.
- Transfer equipment to its destination point for loading or unloading.
2. Equipment Prep and Testing
- Carry out lighting tests and position lights properly during prep.
- Watch the Quality Control test to find failures and properly notate problems in the inventory management system.
- Make minor repairs on equipment as needed.
3. Communication
- Communicate with the Lighting Department Manager and co-workers as needed throughout projects to ensure customer satisfaction.
4. Safety
- Ensure workplace safety and efficiency.
- Follow proper safety protocol at all times.
- Wear proper PPE at all times, based on the scope of work.
5. Attendance
- Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.
6. Any Other Duties as Assigned by Supervisor
- To be determined by supervisor on a permanent or project basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certificates
- High school diploma or GED certificate required.
Experience
- Experience working in lighting in the live events industry preferred.
- Working knowledge of stage lighting, lighting fixtures, etc.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and collaboration skills.
Skills/Abilities
- Ability to work under a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Solid electrical knowledge.
- Ability to test and troubleshoot lighting equipment.
- Ability to hang lighting fixtures.
- Ability to install lighting fixtures.
- Ability to work with power cables and electrical power systems.
